WIBN AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Manheim, PA - On behalf of our Wrestlers in Business Network (WIBN) Board of Directors, I want to thank all our WIBN business leaders who contributed to our 2020 NWCA Virtual Convention's extraordinary success hosted on July 29 to 31. I am excited to report that we almost doubled our previous convention registration record (the previous record was 375, and we had 660 for our virtual convention last month). With all of the COVID-19 related financial challenges that athletic departments housed within educational institutions (at all levels) must overcome, there has never been a more important time to have a corporate support system in place for our interscholastic and intercollegiate wrestling programs. Further, it is also essential for our wrestling coach community to have the necessary CEO skills to ensure their programs' sustainability.

WIBN Webinar Promotion: While the primary mission of WIBN is "networking and career advancement," it is essential to note that the byproduct of successful WIBN Chapter networking events is substantial revenue that can be reinvested back into the local/regional wrestling community. If you haven't already seen this video, please take a moment to watch. I want to encourage all business leaders to use this video when establishing new WIBN chapters and/or when recruiting new board members. I want to extend a special thank you to our WIBN business leaders who contributed to this terrific panel discussion that highlights how WIBN Chapters support local wrestling initiatives at all levels:

We are also very fortunate to have some high profile business leaders who have some discretionary time to "pay it forward" in the spirit of developing the next great generation of coaches. With this in mind, I am excited to announce the launching of a new, innovative college wrestling program "scorecard" and ""self-assessment tool that has recently been distributed to all college coaches across the nation. These confidential tools enable coaches to make the most important decisions about their programs based on objective key performance indicators. The data is confidential for each program, but coaches can compare the key performance indicators of their programs against those of peer institutions in an anonymous way.  As we move forward, we are looking for more business leaders who have the time to go through an orientation of these tools and then agree to help a handful of college coaches with the implementation process. If you are interested in serving in a mentoring capacity, please contact Mike Moyer at 717.653.8009 or mmoyer@nwca.cc.

WIBN Supports the NWCA National Office: While we are so grateful for the dedicated efforts of business leaders across America who are supporting/mentoring wrestling coaches in their regions, I also want to acknowledge the incredible generosity of business leaders who have gone out of their way to help the NWCA maximize revenues via the establishment of internal operating system efficiencies. Here are just a few examples:

  • WIBN Co-Founder and CEO of TalentLaunch, Aaron Grossman, has been instrumental in helping the NWCA implement the internationally acclaimed Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). This "tried and proven" system has helped nonprofits, and for-profit companies of all sizes around the world maximize revenues through the deployment of systematic and intentional processes. If you are interested in evaluating this for your company, please contact Mike Moyer anytime for more information.

  • WIBN/SW Florida Chapter board member Vincent Fantegrossi has been instrumental in helping the NWCA outsource its bookkeeping to a terrific third party national accounting company, Withum. One of our NWCA guiding principles is to outsource all operational areas of the NWCA that are not central to our core mission, so we can dedicate more time and resources to critical programming areas such as coaching development, establishing new college programs and strengthening vulnerable ones, etc. Again, if there are any small to medium-sized companies in our WIBN network interested in exploring this idea, just let us know.

  • WIBN/SW Florida Chapter members Dave Koplovitz and John Kariotis/Amberleaf Partners have provided invaluable expertise in helping the NWCA substantially enhance its I.T infrastructure (Salesforce.com), so we can increase our capacity with our small staff. It never ceases to amaze me the incredible resources we have in our wrestling alumni fraternity.

And lastly, I want to thank those of you who took some time to recommend "presentation topics" for a WIBN webinar series we plan to launch this fall. Some of the more common recommendations we have received are along the lines of the following:

  • State of the union for the upcoming high school and college wrestling season

  • Business development in the new virtual world.

  • Tax strategies for small and medium-sized companies.

We are planning to host two webinars per month, beginning in September. I want to ask all WIBN members to complete this short 3-minute survey so we can identify the best times for you to participate. These webinars will be FREE for all WIBN members, and we hope they can help jumpstart many of the WIBN chapters that have idle since the pandemic hit last March. Please click here:

In closing, I want to thank all WIBN members across America who are doing everything possible to create business development and career opportunities for our wrestling community. There is no doubt that we are in very challenging times, but our wrestling community is battle-tested, and we are built to improvise, adapt, and overcome any obstacles in our way. If the NWCA or WIBN national office can be of any assistance to you and/or your company, please don't hesitate to call us anytime. We are so lucky to have wrestling alumni at the top of almost any industry, and we are always happy to help you make those connections.

Growing wrestling together, Mike
